HUMANITY BEYOND BOUNDARIES
The Faculty of Human Sciences (FSK) at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), a
leading education university in Malaysia, was officially launched on 1 March 2005 as the Faculty of Social Science and Humanity. Originally established as the Department of Social Studies at Sultan Idris Teaching Institute (IPSI), FSK has grown in line with UPSI’s mission to offer quality education in Malaysia.
The name FSK was officially adopted after approval from the University’s Management Meeting on 4 September 2009. Since then, a series of dedicated Deans have spearheaded the Faculty’s growth, solidifying UPSI’s reputation as one of the top Malaysia universities for human sciences and education. Initially operating from the 1st Floor of the Music Complex at UPSI, the Faculty later relocated to the Malim Sarjana Complex, where it remains today. From a modest beginning with 18 academic and 9 administrative staff, the Faculty has expanded significantly, supporting UPSI’s goal of being recognized for best education in Malaysia at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The Faculty began with two academic departments—History and Geography—offering Bachelor of Education (History) with Honors and Bachelor of Education (Geography) with Honors. These UPSI education programs are crafted to meet the evolving demands of quality education in Malaysia.
In August 2005, the Department of Islamic and Asian Civilization (TITAS) transitioned from the Faculty of Cognitive Science and Human Development to FSK, enriching the Faculty’s academic offerings. With the approval to launch the Bachelor in Islamic Study and Bachelor in Malaysian Studies, the Faculty further established itself as a Perak education university offering diverse and meaningful programs. By 2009, the Department of TITAS was restructured, with staff reassigned to the Department of Islamic Studies and the Department of Malaysian Studies, strengthening the Faculty’s structure and enhancing its position as one of the best public universities in Malaysia for humanities and social sciences.
